Direct Mail

Physical mailers to every door in a targeted area — no mailing list required, and response rates 5–9x higher than email. One of the most underrated channels for local businesses.

EDDM: Every Door Direct Mail

EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) is a USPS program that lets you mail to every address on specific mail carrier routes — no mailing list, no postage permit, no per-name cost. You choose the routes, upload your design, and USPS delivers.

From TerritoryIQ to carrier routes

  1. 1
Identify target block groups in TerritoryIQ

Use your customer heatmap to find unconquered or contested neighborhoods with the right demographics. Note the zip codes.

  2. 2
Map to carrier routes on USPS EDDM

Go to eddm.usps.com, search by zip code, and select the carrier routes that overlap your target block groups. Each route shows household count and average income.

  3. 3
    Design your mailer

EDDM requires specific size formats. Standard sizes include 6.5" × 9" and 8.5" × 11". Design must include the EDDM Retail indicia in place of a stamp.

  4. 4
    Print, bundle, and drop off

Bundle in groups of 50–100 (per USPS requirements), fill out the EDDM facing slip, and drop off at your local Post Office. Delivery happens within 3–5 business days.

Design tips

  • One clear offer — a specific discount, a free consultation, or a compelling reason to call. Don't try to say everything.
  • Big headline — it gets half a second of attention. Make it count.
  • Local references — "Serving [neighborhood name]" or "Now in [zip code]" performs better than generic copy.
  • QR code — link to a landing page or Google Maps listing. Trackable, easy to scan.
  • Clear call to action — a phone number or website, large enough to read without glasses.

Cost breakdown

For a 5,000-piece campaign targeting 2–3 carrier routes:

  • Printing (standard postcard, 6.5" × 9"): approximately $250–400
  • USPS postage: approximately $200–250 (at ~$0.04–0.05/piece for EDDM Retail)
  • Design (if using a designer): $100–300 one-time, then free to reuse
  • Total: approximately $550–950 for 5,000 pieces
